What device do I need to get started with listening to my first audio book?
You can use over 200 compatible devices. The first step many would do is download their chosen audio book file to their home PC or MAC. Then they will transfer the files to their desired mobile gadget. It’s really what you feel comfortable with. You can actually download the files direct to your MP3 Player, iPod or others.
Can these audio book files be burned or saved on to a standard CD?
Yes, you will just need the software installed on your PC to do this. You can use audibles proprietary software that you download when you create an account or you can use iTunes and others.
Do I have to worry about the different size of audio book files?
Not really! The larger the file of your chosen audio book, the better the quality of the audio. Unabridged audio book files are larger than abridged. If you choose the lowest quality setting it will be approximately 20MB and 76MB at its highest setting. We believe its best to buy a device that has a larger capacity so you can download more. Consider this when you upgrade your current device.
I am getting an Error message when I attempt to download an audio book file. What should I do?
Don’t worry! Although there could be a few reasons, the most likely reason is it has something to do with your anti-virus software installed on your PC. It’s designed to protect your PC and dislikes any intrusion. Try and temporarily disable any anti-virus/ad blocking software that you have installed and try the download process again. Be sure to enable this software after you have successfully completed the full download process. If this does not work, don’t worry it may be something simpler. Just contact audibles technical support either via email or give them a tinkle. They will have you up and running in no time.
What's the difference between abridged and unabridged audio books?
While sourcing your audio books you will come across two formats, abridged audio books and unabridged audio books. An abridged audio book has basically been edited to make it shorter in length. An unabridged audio book is the full length, un-edited version. Most people prefer the unabridged, as this version offers you more “bang for your buck”. Each title will clearly state whether it is the unabridged. If it does not state "Unabridged" then expect it to be an abridged version. It is advisable to always check this before you purchase.
